Four Michigan schools are being recognized by the State Department of Education for their programs preparing students for future careers.

The 2015 Excellence in Practice award recognizes successful career tech programs.

One of the awards went to the Bay Arenac Career Center.

Linda Engelhardt is Principal at the Center.

She said of the 23 programs offered by the center, the award winning program was their Engineering and Drafting program.

“To be recognized on the state level for having an exemplary program really is a wonderful opportunity for us to share what we’re doing here.”

Engelhardt said the programs give students opportunities to connect with industries, work with specialized equipment, and see what it’s like to work in engineering careers.

Awards were also given to the Traverse Bay, and Wexford-Missaukee career tech centers.
