On November 12, Alma College is hosting a webinar on global and rural sustainability.
The webinar will include a panel and interactive discussion about worldwide and rural-Michigan sustainability.
Officials from IBM, DOW, and other large corporations will talk about preserving our natural resources.
Ed Lorenz is the organizer of the event at Alma College.
“The overall theme of tomorrow is looking at how to have a type of development that sort of benefits everyone but especially does not abandon concern with the local community, wherever that local community is.”
Lornez said it’s important for community members to learn about the effects of harming a region’s sustained resources.
“Our concern is that much of the development that we’ve seen and this is not just in Mid-Michigan, and not just in the U.S, but globally there’s so much development that raises question of whether we can keep having that type development. It either extracts a lot of resources, it leaves a lot of problems in its wake, it maybe doesn’t compensate the local participants in the local economy sufficiently.”
The event is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Heather Room at Alma College, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
