The Genesee County Health Department has scheduled what officials call a massive lead screening event this month. The county is working in partnership with state health officials. The event is a part of an ongoing effort to have all children (and babies) within Flint tested for lead poisoning by April 1st.
Officials with the Genesee County Health Department say 200 children in Flint have already tested positive for lead poisoning.
Hilda McShane is with the Genesee County Health Department. She said once a child tests positive, the health department takes steps to help them.
“It’s just through case management that we’re helping parents understand how to help their child with lead poisoning. And like I said before a big part of it is nutrition.”
McShane said health officials will also help families identify any other potential sources of lead in homes
The lead testing day is scheduled for Saturday, March 19 from 9am-5pm at the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Church in Flint.
