Flint officials have filed an official notice that a lawsuit against the state is in the works.
The notice says the state and environmental officials’ “grossly negligent oversight” caused the city’s water crisis. State officials say they were surprised by the threat of a lawsuit.
Ari Adler is Governor Rick Snyder’s communications director. He says the administration is trying to work with the city to solve the water crisis, and to persuade Republicans in the Legislature to send more resources and money to Flint.
“And it’s going to be difficult to do that if you create an adversarial relationship through the courts,” says Adler.
The notice says the state is liable for reduced property values and tax revenues, emergency management costs and medical claims. There’s no word on when the city might file the actual lawsuit.
