A STEM playground is being built at a new STEM elementary school in Midland

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. The playground may include things like magnetic boards, a 3-dimensional solar system, and a sound and vibration station.

Sharon Mortensen is president and CEO at Midland Area Community Foundation.

“So many things that will really reinforce and even buildable play spaces kids can do with big blocks that they can climb on and so on, so the idea is to make an outdoor area where children can play that really reinforces the learning that they’re receiving as part of their education.”

The Midland Area Community Foundation has provided an initial $150,000 for the project.

The school and playground are set to be complete in fall of 2017.
