Recycling efforts in northeast Michigan are expected to increase due to new grant funding

LANDFILL 1The $35,000 grant goes toward a recycling project aimed to recover resources, and decrease landfill usage.

The project affects at least a half a dozen counties, including Wexford, Grand Traverse, and Leelanau.

Sarah Archer is the Recycling Coordinator for Manistee County, and manager of the project.

“Really recycling is driven by volume and so we’re looking at economies of scale which is why we’re kind of taking a regional approach to this.”

The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
