Michigan universities respond to immigration order

SVSU-RED-BLOCK-copyUniversities across the state are working to understand what President Trump’s immigration ban could mean for international students.

Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State University, Central Michigan University, and Lake Superior State University all released statements this week in response to the ban.

J.J. Boehm is the communications director for SVSU. He said they are working to support their international students.

“We are here to respect them and to make sure we are helping them with their legal rights while also making sure we as a university are also in compliance with all the rules and regulations that have been put in place.”

In a written statement, officials with Lake Superior State University said quote “We understand the importance of protecting our country and keeping Americans and Michiganders safe. However, we cannot let fear cause us to abandon our core values.”
