CMU hosts conference on human trafficking

CMUlogo2013_CMU_maroon_CMYKA human trafficking conference at Central Michigan University Friday (tomorrow) aims to inform people about the issue and give them the tools to help fight it.

Speakers will talk about how human trafficking impacts women, and children, and ways law enforcement has responded to the crisis.

Dr. Maureen Eke organized the conference. She says education is an important tool for fighting trafficking.

“You know sometimes people might be in the middle of a human trafficking incident and not realize they are witnessing something. To recognize some of those signs, to be able to call, to at least have the information that they need to help.”

Eke says not many people realize, human trafficking is as much an issue in the U.S. as it is in other countries.

She says she hopes the conference sheds a light on the issue.
