The Iditarod crosses one thousand miles of Alaskan trails, this year the race went from Fairview to Nome.
Laura Neese finished the race in 10 days, 3 hours, and forty minutes. She came in 42nd out of 72 teams. Neese works at Nature’s Kennel in Luce county, which offers sled dog tours and training. She said she almost beat her boss’ fastest Iditarod time but overslept on her final stop.
“I completely forgot about Ed’s time until I got into Nome and I was like ‘hey did I beat ya?’ We looked it up and I was 27 minutes below him. If I hadn’t had overslept I would have beat him.”
Neese said she’s been training for the Iditarod for three years. She says she’s dreamed of competing since she was 9 years old.
She said she’s already looking forward to competing again next year.
