The Rusty Patched Bumblebee has officially been designated as an endangered species, after the designation was temporarily halted last month.
The bee’s designation was put on hold by the Trump Administration last month, as part of a sweeping review of proposed rules and regulations.
Now that the hold has been lifted, the Rusty Patched Bumblebee has become the first bee to be added to the federal endangered species list. Bee populations have been declining steadily for about thirty years.
Experts say the bumblebee has disappeared from ninety percent of its native habitat.
