The Pure Award is for a Michigan organization that works to protect and steward natural resources. In this case, the natural resource is the night sky.

Mary Stewart-Adams is the Program Director for Headlands.

“Part of our getting the Headlands designated as an International Dark Sky Park was so that we could raise the bar of awareness about how natural darkness is a natural resource that’s vanishing for all too many of us. So to get this recognition from Pure Michigan for that activity is just really exciting.”

Stewart-Adams says glass blowers at Greenfield Village used a north star and milky way galaxy design to create the award specifically for the park
