Nurses rally on Capitol for Safe Patient Care Act

Capital_Building_Lansing (1)Less stressed, more alert nurses means better patient care. That was the message of hundreds of nurses who met at the state Capitol today.

They want the state legislature to pass a Safe Patient Care Act. It would limit mandatory overtime, require a smaller patient to nurse ratio and increase reporting requirements. Similar efforts have failed in the past.

Donna Heinrich from Traverse City has been a nurse for about 34 years. She says worn out nurses can make mistakes.

Democrats Senator Rebekah Warren and Representative Jon Hoadley are currently in the final stages of putting together a Safe Patient Care Act. Warren says they hope to introduce the legislation before the end of the month.
