Two Michigan hospitals nationally recognized

Two hospitals in Michigan have been recognized among the top 20 rural community hospitals in the nation. The hospitals being recognized are War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, and Mid-Michigan Medical Center serving Alpena County. Tim Ellis is in marketing and community relations at War Memorial Hospital. He says the National Rural Health Association, which selects the list, looks for many factors when choosing their top 20 hospitals. “Inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspectives, cost, charges, and financial stability so it’s really kind of a conglomeration of a bunch of different things that kind of the watchdog groups look for.” Ellis says it’s great to get this recognition, especially in a day and age when rural community hospitals are struggling.
