The calculator allows people to calculate child support payments, It’s release will not affect jobs of child support staff.
Erica Quealy is a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
“We just wanted to make it available to anyone just to take the burden off of, you know if they had questions or they wanted to see how the support payments were calculated we wanted to provide that level of service to the public.”
Quealy says the calculator allows parents to get an idea of payments before going to court and opening a child support case.
She says it also allows people to compare results provided to them by child support staff and agree on a fair support amount with the other parent.
