Investors who buy blighted property would get new tax incentives, under a set of bills on their way to Governor Rick Snyder’s desk.
Last year the bills were nicknamed after Dan Gilbert – the prominent Detroit developer.
Opponents call them a gift to wealthy corporations at the expense of tax payers. But proponents insist the legislation will bring investment to cities big and small.
Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof says there’s no risk to taxpayers because the bills –
“Puts the, the onus on the developer to put all the money up front so there’s no risk on the front end for tax payers and they’re able to recoup some on the backside.”
Meekhof says he’s confident the governor will sign the bills.
