CMU celebrates Native American Heritage throughout November

SaginawlogoNative American heritage month runs through November at Central Michigan University. Several events have been planned throughout the month to inform and educate attendees on Native American culture.

CMU will offer events aimed at paying tribute to the ancestry and traditions of Native American people. Events will feature Native American performers, storytellers, dancers, and speakers.

Colleen Green, director of Native American Programs at CMU said some events actively engage students.

“We had at least 30 students from around campus go out and clean up campus out of respect for mother Earth, out of respect for the university as well. We always love to have our environment looking great when we have visitors on campus,” Green said.

According to Green, Heritage month events give everyone a chance to observe what Native Americans have achieved culturally, and how they keep their traditions moving forward.
