State offers family caregivers a personal thank you

coffeeNovember is National Family Caregivers Month. In recognition, family caregivers in Michigan are getting a thank you and perhaps a free cup of coffee from the State.

Phil Lewis is a spokesman for the State Office of Services to the Aging. He says family caregivers are an important part of Michigan’s population.

Caregivers are the foundation of long-term care, and they provide about 80% of the assistance to their friends and loved ones in need. And there are about one-point-two-million caregivers in Michigan. And they account for about 15-point-five million in economic contribution to the state.

Lewis says a lot of caregivers don’t see their activities as unique, he says they’re just trying to do the right thing.

The state Office of Services for the Aging wants to say thanks for ‘doing the right thing’.

They’re sending out personal thank you notes from the OSA director. And they’re entering caregivers to win drink coupons from Biggby Coffee
