Michigan drivers may have spotted a new state license plate on the road lately.
What you may not know is that it’s apparently highly collectible. Featuring the Mackinac Bridge, the license plate shines bright with orange and blue colors.
It was voted the world’s best new plate by The Automobile License Plate collectors Association. Gus Oliver is the “Best Plate” award coordinator with the organization, and he said Michigan was chose because of its unique design and functionality.
“The numbers don’t really interfere with the design, which is one of the key components,” he said. “Sometimes, there will be a really nice background, but the numbers will interfere with the design to the extent that it’s not legible.”
So far, state officials said more than 112,000 of the new plates have sold.
Michigan’s plate was chosen among 12 finalists by License Plate collector members.
The Collector’s association has presented the “Best Plate” award annually since 1972.
