Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident involving a vehicle and a horse drawn buggy.

State troopers responded to a crash between a buggy and a car in Wexford County, Wednesday.

Police said they expect the car that fled the scene to be a teal Pontiac Grand Am. Teal paint residue was left on the buggy from the accident.

Police said the buggy was carrying seven young people, including three children, when it was hit, and that all seven were thrown out of the buggy.

Sargent Scott R. Bates is with the Michigan State Police, Cadillac Post.

“At this time, it appears that it was an accidental traffic crash where the buggy was struck in the rear,” he said. “It was a surprise to the family, obviously, that they had been struck.”

Bates said all seven passengers are safe, one person was taken to the hospital, but has since been medically cleared. He said the buggy was destroyed, the horse ran away, but was found near the owner’s home.

An investigation is ongoing.
