Residents living along the Muskegon River downstream of the Croton Dam in Newaygo County are being urged to prepare to evacuate.
According to Abby Watkins, with the Newaygo County Emergency Management Agency, river levels are currently at a “moderate” flood stage.
“That’s about two feet higher than normal, and river levels are forecast to rise to ‘major’ flood stage levels by tomorrow,” she said.
Newaygo County is in the process of setting up shelter and evacuation centers.
Watkins said river levels are not expected fall until next Monday, and residents could be out of their homes until then.
