A northern Michigan hospital received a grant this month to continue operation of a new program dedicated to creating healthy lifestyles for kids.
“Fit-4-Life” was introduced in December at Charlevoix Area Hospital. It offers hands-on activities that teach kids about understanding their own health status, ways to establish healthy habits and it stresses the importance of making time for exercise.
Katherine Forrester, Communication Coordinator for the hospital, said the hospital hopes to expand its services to other schools in the community.
“Continuing to promote healthy lifestyle choices, to know how to check blood pressure, to be aware of what your body is telling you, those are things that we learn more about each year when working with different students,” she said.
Forrester said most of the grant money will go toward funding individual screening products, such as cholesterol checks.
Fit-4-Life currently serves nine schools in the Charlevoix area as an outreach program of Charlevoix Area Hospital.
