Drive to collect devices containing mercury in Bay County

thermometerBay County Health officials are working this summer to keep mercury out of the environment.

The Health Department has launched a drive to collect devices that contain mercury.

Residents can drop off things like thermostats, thermometers, gauges and barometers at the health department’s offices in downtown Bay City.

Department officials said items must be secured in two plastic bags and placed in a crush-proof sealed container before being dropped off.

In order to schedule a drop off time, residents must call the Health Department. The collection program runs through September.
