More than a quarter million dollars in grant money from the National Institutes of Health was recently awarded to a microbiologist from CMU in order to bolster a certain type of stem cell research.

Dr. Xantha Karp is a CMU professor, and the lead microbiologist on this stem cell research project.

This Summer Central Michigan University is rolling out a new program aimed at getting children more active.

The program is called ‘Play on the Way’ and through it, CMU will send out a truck and trailer fully equipped with everything kids need to have fun outdoors.

Photography class takes a snapshot of Beaver Island life

In an interesting twist on a photography class, a CMU art professor left for Beaver Island with 15 honors students and a five day lesson plan.

The students were asked to explain the narrative of day-to-day life on Beaver Island, using nothing but pictures they took on their smartphones. Continue reading

Bike path expected in central Michigan by next fall


A new bike trail is expected to debut next fall in central Michigan.

Officials say the proposed path would extend from Clare to Alma and connect two existing trails: the Pere Marquette and Fred Meijer Heartland trails.

The path is proposed to run more than 40 miles through Clare, Isabella and Gratiot Counties. It would largely run parallel to US-127. Continue reading
