MI House poised to adopt funds to help Flint with water bills

money-coinsThe state House is expected to vote tomorrow (Thu.) to spend 30 (m) million dollars to help Flint residents with their water bills.

The budget measure was adopted and sent to the House floor by the GOP-controlled House appropriations committee. But not without attempts by Democrats to add money to forgive all of Flint residents’ water bills, instead of just 65 percent. Continue reading

Bills that could bring 75 MPH speed limits on Michigan freeways clears House panel

IMG_1255A state House panel has approved raising speed limits on some Michigan roadways. The bipartisan bills could increase speed limits up to 75 miles-per-hour on interstates. They also include studies that would look at increasing speeds up to 80 miles-per-hour in the future. The legislation also make changes to speed limits on state highways, gravel roads, and in school zones.

It now goes to the full state House.

Snyder backs energy plan headed to state House floor

Snyder_courtesy_4Governor Rick Snyder has thrown his support behind an energy plan that could be voted on soon by the state House.

The plan would make it harder for customers to move between the utilities and alternative suppliers of electricity. The governor says that would help utilities plan new construction as 19 coal-fired plants are about to shut down.

Legislature moving quickly on emergency funds for Flint water fix

bottled waterThe Legislature is close to approving the state’s portion of the money to re-connect Flint to the Detroit water system, and eliminate lead from the city’s drinking water.

The state House approved the funding Wednesday and state Senate approval’s expected on Thursday.
