This year the festival is celebrating a new 150-mile long birding trail.

The DEQ grants quarter million dollars for ‘Trail Towns’

The state granted more than a quarter-million dollars for improving coastal trails and nearby towns across the state.

Grand Traverse County received the single largest grant, just under $100,000.

The rest of the money was parceled out to the Clinton River Watershed Council, and three other environmental groups farther south.

Endangered species designation slows northern trail project

BatTrail enthusiasts in northern Michigan will have to wait a bit longer for construction of a new trail from Boyne City to Charlevoix.

Northern Michigan officials say they have a new trail for winter enthusiasts

Winter is here, and DNR officials said a new winter trail is now available for people to use in northern Michigan.

Officials said they will be opening a new VASA pathway that has bicyclists in mind. They said they are holding a public meeting Nov. 20 to announce VASA trail changes. Continue reading

Bike path expected in central Michigan by next fall


A new bike trail is expected to debut next fall in central Michigan.

Officials say the proposed path would extend from Clare to Alma and connect two existing trails: the Pere Marquette and Fred Meijer Heartland trails.

The path is proposed to run more than 40 miles through Clare, Isabella and Gratiot Counties. It would largely run parallel to US-127. Continue reading
