Michigan unveils new statewide Sex Offender Registry

MI_-_State_Police_logoA statewide website has received a makeover. The new Sex Offender Registry has debuted in Michigan.

State police officials say the information on the site will not change.

Sergeant Bruce Payne is the Statewide Enforcement Coordinator for the Michigan State Police Sex Offender Registry Unit.

He said the website is now being run by a new operating system called Defender Watch, which will give the site new functionality.”There has been a facelift on the website. There are new features that are available for the general public that wants to make a search for an offender in his or her neighborhood.”

On the site, users can search by city, zip code, county and offender name.

Anyone who previously received notifications via email must re-register on the updated website to continue receiving emails.

Police say the registry contains the names, addresses, photograph, vehicle, employment and offense information of nearly 38-thousand offenders.
