A record of 1,535,633 people visited the Lakeshore in 2015.
Tom Ulrich is the acting Superintendent for the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. He says the future of the park will probably see big visitation numbers as well.
“Really out of the last five years they comprise five of the top six visitation years in our history. While we set a record here in 2015, the trend is for more visitors to come. The staff here are incredible and they work really hard to preserving this place and making it a welcoming place to visit. I see no reason for that not to continue” says Ulrich.
Ulrich also says warm weather in November and December brought record numbers in those months as well.
He says he expects 2016 to be outstanding as well.
This is a centennial year for the National Park Service and Ulrich says the “Find Your Park” campaign is already bringing out more visitors.
