Wine makers report a good year

DSC_0158The past two years haven’t’ exactly been great for wine makers, but this year wineries across the state report say their yield is looking up.

Karel Bush is the Executive Director of The Michigan Grape and Wine Industry Council.

She said a couple of things have to come together to provide for a good harvest.

“We need to have enough heat, enough warmth during the season. We need to not have big weather events like we had for the previous two winters. Where it was really an extended very cold season.”

Bush said the harvest for grapes is pretty much done in southern Michigan, and it will continue in northern Michigan until mid November.
