Shelly Hartmann is co-owner of True Blue Farms and a part of the Blueberry Commodity Commission. She says the proposed program will help growers work together to sell more berries. The question now, is will growers agree to pay for it.
“We’re going to be generating the assessment to provide promotion, market development, research programs, and it’s going to be administered by a group of the committee which will be appointed by the governor and there will be seven people on the committee.”
Hartmann says the ballots will be mailed out to growers in January. Results are expected in the spring.
