President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to be the next transportation secretary was questioned on autonomous vehicles as part of her confirmation hearing today. A Michigan lawmaker says he’s pleased with what he heard.
US Senator Gary Peters sits on the Senate Transportation Committee. Peters Secretary-designate Elaine Chou said the right things about developing a domestic autonomous vehicle program, an important issue for the Detroit Three carmakers.
“This represents the future of the auto industry and we have to make sure that Michigan is first and foremost when it comes to producing those automobiles.”
But Peters, a Democrat, says he’s not a “yes” vote yet on the Chou nomination. He’s also looking for answers on her plans for ensuring fuel lines like Enbridge Line 5 beneath the Straits of Mackinac are safely operated.
