Recognition offered Michigan schools that promote healthy living

IMG_5484Michigan schools are being encouraged to promote healthier living among students.

Officials say healthy students can see lifelong benefits. Wellness has been shown not only to improve physical condition, but a student’s learning as well.

Bob Wheaton is a Communications Manager and Public Information Officer with the MDHHS.

“We recognize some of the schools that do a good job at making sure their students are in a healthy environment which can contribute to lifelong healthy habits by the students and also can improve student learning if students are following healthy practices they would tend to do better in school as well.”

Wheaton says Michigan schools are recognized every year for outstanding programs to encourage student wellness.

Information on this year’s recognition and how schools can apply is on the School Wellness Award website.
