The grant comes from The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and is going to the Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Alpena.
They will receive the 50-thousand dollar grant to increase sustainable tourism, public engagement and appreciation of the sanctuary in Lake Huron.
Allison Alexander is the Vice President for the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.
“The purpose of the grants is to build awareness of ocean conservation issues that impact the ocean and great lakes in particular of course our focus is on national marine sanctuaries.”
Alexander says they’ve awarded the grants annually since 2005.
The grant is one of five for a total of 215-thousand dollars.
