Michigan’s solid waste stream increased by just over three percent from 2015 to 2016.
Christina Miller is the solid waste annual reporting coordinator for the state. She says nearly a quarter of all waste in Michigan is imported from other states and from Canada.
“Based on our geographic location and the fact that we have low disposal rates in the region, we get a lot of materials.”
Miller says Michigan has roughly 27 years of disposal capacity remaining.
