Dietitians offer tips for national nutrition month

With national nutrition month underway dietitians are offering tips for eating healthy.

 

file000723508156Dietitians say eating healthy can be as simple as sticking to a shopping list or planning and cooking meals ahead.

Courtney McCormick is a corporate dietitian for Nutrisystem. She said grocery stores have ways of tricking customers into buying more than they need.

“They continue to increase the size of carts because what we’ve found from research is actually when you double the size of a cart you’re going to put about 40 percent more food in your cart. So the grocery store really they want us to buy more food so the larger the cart the more food we’re going to put in that cart.”

McCormick said another way to stick to healthy options and avoid fast food is to plan and prepare meals at the start of the week.
