The report was written by Dr. Ed Tim, a retired DOW chemical scientist. It suggests that the currents under the straits are twice as strong as the pipeline was built to withstand.
Michael Shriberg is with the National Wildlife Federation, which supported the research. He said the report has some alarming implications.
“It’s one of the few truly independent reviews of this, meaning almost everything else has come directly from Enbridge, a company that obviously has a financial interest in saying the pipeline remains quite safe.”
Shriberg said the information will be reported at the next pipeline advisory board meeting.
Enbridge Energy could not be immediately reached for comment.
