New campaign aims to inspire women, minorities to become financial planners


40 percent of Americans work with a financial advisor.

But only 23 percent of financial advisors are women.

A new campaign is trying to change that.

It’s called “I am a CFP Pro” and was launched by the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning.

Brittney Castro is a Certified Financial Planner.

She said the campaign hopes to increase the number of women and people of color in the field.

“Being a woman myself, and also a Hispanic women, I think it’s just a lack of awareness about this as a field. One of the biggest goals of this campaign is really to bring more education and resources to individuals.”

Castro said the campaign shares stories of women and minorities who are financial advisors.

“This is near and dear to my heart, if I can help educate and inspire more women to pursue this field. It really gives them a lot benefits that I believe women look for in the workplace, freedom to have a family, make a good income, and make a difference in people’s lives.”
