Property damage after a severe weather event can be a major boon to scammers, and it’s important to be on the look out for potential scams. This was the word today from the Michigan Attorney General in recognition of Severe Weather Awareness week.
Attorney General Bill Schuette released a written alert warning residents about potential scams.
The alert includes warnings about things from higher costs post-disaster, to government impostors, to disaster relief charity scams.
In the release Schuttee said most businesses and charities act with professionalism but some take advantage of people’s misfortune.
