Snyder bids farewell to Guard unit headed to Middle East

Governor Rick Snyder was among those on hand todaysoldier to bid farewell to 65 soldiers in the 147th Assault Helicopter Battalion headed to the Middle East. The unit will spend a month training in Fort Hood before heading to Kuwait. From there, the 147th will provide air support to ground troops fighting ISIS forces in Iraq and in Syria.

Snyder thanked the soldiers and their families from there sacrifice. They also heard from Captain Brian Snook, the unit commander.

The unit will be deployed for about a year. The Michigan Guard says there are currently about 200 soldiers and airmen deployed at hot spots overseas.
