Friday, July 4 at 8 p.m.

Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning film, theater and television actor Jimmy Smits hosts the 28th annual broadcast of A CAPITOL FOURTH, live from Washington, DC. The star-spangled party will feature unrivaled musical performances from some of the country’s best known and award-winning artists, as well as the most spectacular fireworks display anywhere in the nation. Grammy winning musicians Huey Lewis and the News, “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks, rock ‘n’ roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell, classical superstar Hayley Westenra and soprano Harolyn Blackwell will perform a selection of patriotic and celebratory music with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Erich Kunzel.



Prayer in America
Part 1 of 2 Wednesday, July 9 at 8 p.m.

What role has prayer played in shaping the development and history of America? This two-part documentary explores contemporary debates about the role of prayer through the lens of history. By asking rhetorically, "How did we get here?" the show examines the ways in which prayer has contributed to and continues to shape the American experience.

"Hearing Voices" Premieres This Week on CMU Public Radio

"Hearing Voices" is a new weekly series premiering this Thursday, July 3 at 8 p.m. on CMU Public Radio. Called 'the best of Public Radio,' the program is a sixty-minute stream of "driveway moments" all connected by a weekly theme.

The show's producers listen to broadcasts and podcasts; dig through audio archives; and scour the web to find the best stories, sound-portraits, slam poets, docs, radio dramas, features, and found-sound

CMU Public Radio music hosts are always looking for just the right music to take you through your mornings and afternoons, but you, the listener, can be in the driver's seat with our "All-Request Fridays," a monthly feature on CMU Public Radio. Once a month, "Music in the Morning" and "Afternoon Classical Music" feature the music that you request, providing you with a variety of selections from all genres.

Start humming your favorite selection and call in July 11 from 9 a.m. until Noon, and then again from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. for the next All-Request Friday on CMU Public Radio. Through her memorable songs and insightful interviews, investigate all aspects of the album’s production. Covering everything from Carole’s impact on the music industry, her songwriting process to how her career developed, producer Lou Adler, friend Graham Nash, Rolling Stone journalist David Wild, and Carole King herself all discuss the legendary musician and her success. Also, hear live performances with Carole –all this, Sunday at 4 p.m. on CMU Public Radio.
